Johnston VBC Coaching Staff
Molly is in her fourth season coaching at JVBC. She's coached 14U-16U. Molly will graduate from Grand View University, where she was a Defensive Specialist for the Vikings. She graduationed from PCM High School where she was the libero received honorable mention her senior year.
|Lindsey Cosgriff||Lindsey is a 2007 graduate from Johnston High School and was part of the State qualifying team in the fall of 2006. After high school, Lindsey attended Grand View University where she double majored in Business Management and Human Resources. She was a Defensive Specialist for the Vikings and during her career, Grand View transformed into a top contender in the Midwest Collegiate Conference and made school history when they received votes in the NAIA Top 25 her senior year. This will be Lindsey's eighth season at JVBC. During the last 4 seasons Lindsey has taken a team to Nationals as both an Head and Assistant Coach.|
Gene played volleyball collegiately for the Iowa State Men’s Volleyball Club. He has been Head Varsity coach for Des Moines Hoover High School and has coached club ball at the 15s, 16s and 18s level under the IPVA umbrella prior to the formation of the Johnston Volleyball Club. Gene has directed Adult Leagues for over 10 years and played actively until multiple ankle surgeries forced him to retire from play. Gene recently received his CAP I certification. This will be his third season with JVBC.
|Kenzie Hewitt||Kenzie is currently a junior at Simpson College in Indianola. She played as a middle hitter at Johnston. She has coached the 12U-14U age groups for JVBC in the past. We are excited to have Kenzie back at JVBC!!
|Michele Ihnen||Michele has been involved in the game and has had many roles at various levels. She is a graduate of Central Bible College, Springfield, MO, where she was a member of a 4-time National Tournament Qualifying team. She earned All-American honors twice as an outside hitter. Michele has been a graduate assistant and a junior and senior high coach (Sheldon, IA). She has spent the past five seasons coaching Riverland Community College in Minnesota. Michele is also CAP I certified and is excited to be back in Iowa. JVBC is thrilled to have her join our coaching cadre.|
|Rich Klahn||Rich joins us for his fourth season with JVBC. He has played 20+ years of competitive volleybal in Iowa, Colorado, and Nebraska. Rich has been our 12's league director and coached other JVBC teams. This will be Rich's third year coaching at JVBC.|
|Curt Larkin||The 2005 Iowa Male Coach of the Year for USAVB, Curt has many years of experience. With experience s a Head HS coach as well as Coaching for the Iowa Rockets prior to moving to Johnston. He has taken 14 different teams to Nationals as either head or assistant coach, with a highest finish of 5th. As National teams director, his focus will be on developing that same success with JVBC. A counselor at JHS, Curt incorporates "life skills" into every volleyball practice, match, and event. Curt is a CAP II level coach with USAVB.|
|Keely Larkin||Keely is a Johnston High School graduate and currently a sophomore libero for Grandview University. Keely played club for JVBC and went to Nationals with several teams during her tenure. This will be Keely's second year of coaching and her passion and experience are great assets to JVBC!|
|Sarah is starting her twelfth season with the Johnston Volleyball Club. She has coached at both the regional and national levels, and was and assistant volleyball coach at Simpson College for three years. Prior to that she volunteered for three years with the Drake University volleyball team. A graduate of Drake, she played four years there from 2004-2007, as a starting setter. Myres was the 2016 Iowa Female Coach of the Year. Sarah currently resides in Indianola, where she is a 3rd grade teacher at Irving Elementary.
|Kathy Nesteby||A lifelong player, Kathy started out in the back yard with her sister until she could join a school team in 4th grade. Nesteby was captain of her high school varsity team in Dubuque, where she was always known as a hitter, but proudly held the record for best passing percentage for many years too. She went on to play competitive league ball as an adult and in 2015 decided it was time to coach for the first time - 6th grade. This will be her first year in Johnston.|
|Heather Poula||Heather Poula graduated from West Branch High School where she was a four-year letter winner, first team all conference 2010-2012, state honorable mention 2011-2012, and captain for her last two seasons. After high school, Heather attended Kirkwood Community College where she received awards as a two-year all-American. After two years at Kirkwood, she transferred to Grand View University where she plans to earn a double major in Accounting and Finance. For 2015, Heather contributed as an outside hitter playing all six rotations earning 2nd team all-conference. This will be Heather’s 4th year coaching club volleyball and her 2nd season with JVBC.|
|Laura Roeder-Grubb||The 2006 Iowa Female Coach of the year, the 2008 Outstanding Junior Leader for USAVB, and she was presented the 2014 Meritorious Service Award. She iis a long time fixture in Central Iowa Volleyball, and has taken more than six teams to Nationals, starting in 2004. Laura is known for GREAT fundamental skill coaching in ALL skills. Laura served in helping to build the former Ankeny Volleyball Club as well as the former Sports University Club. One of the most recognizable faces of volleyball in Central Iowa, you'll also see her as a top official for Iowa High School matches in the fall. Laura is a CAP I level coach with USAVB.|
Rick has been coaching youth sports (soccer, basketball, baseball, football, softball, and volleyball) in the Johnston area for the past thirteen years. He was a three sport all-state athlete in high school and played men’s USAVB after college where his team won the Iowa Region men’s BB championship in 1998. His 14U boys team qualified for Boys Junior Nationals in the Open division in both 2015 & 2016 finishing 25th and 17th, respectively. This will be his fifth year coaching with JVBC.
|Rachel Walljasper||Rachel is currently a junior at Upper Iowa University. She has played volleyball since she was 8 years old, and was a setter for Johnston Volleyball Club since she was in 6th grade. Rachel also played golf, and softball for the Dragons. We are excited to have her coach again for JVBC!|
|Erica Warren||Erica has played volleyball since she was 10 years old. She played for Johnston High School (part of the 2006 state team as a senior) as well as Johnston Volleyball Club. During her time at Johnston, she helped coach clinics and camps for younger girls. She attended Wartburg College where she played for two years, and then began as an assistant coach her junior year. She also helped with Wartburg volleyball camps for high school girls. This is Erica's fourth year coaching with JVBC.|
